Jason MacKenzie, chef and co-owner of Bohemian Pizza in Litchfield, CT, grew up locally in nearby Bantam. MacKenzie entered the restaurant business at the age of fourteen when he began working for the original owner of the restaurant. He continued his interest in the culinary arts in high school and went on to study at the Connecticut Culinary Institute (Now Lincoln Culinary). After working in fine dining, MacKenzie made the switch back to his roots when he became the co-owner of Bohemian in 2005 with his business partner, Gary Copeland. The duo is described as the “funk and the function”, making the two personalities a win for the CT pizza scene and Litchfield County.
MacKenzie has been the catalyst for Bohemian Pizza to be showcased in numerous publications including the Republican American, Connecticut Magazine, The New York Times, Hartford Courant, and Litchfield Magazine. MacKenzie and Copeland continue to focus on bringing a witty, down-to-earth and sometimes unexpected experience combined with a variety of food that appeals to a gamut of palates and appetites.
In his free time, MacKenzie loves spending time with his wife, son and daughter. He is a self-proclaimed cat person, punk-rock enthusiast, is covered in tattoos, and loves nothing more than laying on the beaches of Cape Cod, MA.
